How to use this App


Notifications

Notifications are pop up alert messages, often accompanied by an alert sound.

When you download the App for the first time a pop up message asked if you would like to receive Push Notifications. Clicking OK enables notifications. If you are not receiving notifications or you are unsure whether you enabled notifications or not, you can check in your device's setting menu.

Badges

Badges are small round red circles shown on the App icon on the home screen. The badges display a number, this represents the number of new items available for you in the News view. Enter the App and select News and then pull the list down with your finger to search for and download updates.

Homescreen

The home screen acts as the App's main menu, from here you can navigate to any of the App's modules.

Replication Button: At the top right of the homescreen you will see a circular icon, this is the replication button which will replicate the App on your device with the server and pick up any updates. If you press the button a pop up message tells you the last time the App was replicated and asks you whether you would like to replicate now. Press Yes and you will see the loading screen for a few seconds while the App checks for updates and downloads new items. Once complete you will be returned to the homecreen

Scrolling: You can move up and down the home screen by scrolling up or down with your finger.

Selecting modules: You can enter any one of the modules by pressing on the module name.

Returning: There are two ways to go back, pressing the back arrow button at the top left of the screen takes you back to the previous screen. Alternatively, pressing the house icon button on the top right takes you directly back to the home screen.

Welcome

The welcome or about us module is the first module, this page gives a brief introduction to the App and sets out its aims and purpose. The Welcome module is the default module for the tablet version of the App.

Returning. There are two ways to go back, pressing the back arrow button at the top left of the screen takes you back to the previous screen. Alternatively pressing the house icon button on the top right takes you directly back to the home screen.

Latest

The Latest module is a scrolling list of the most interesting items from the App, plus feeds from Facebook and Twitter.

Pulling the list down with your finger searches for updates and refreshes the list with any updates.

Scanning the list of entries in the view you will see they can be different colours, sizes and formats. You can touch on any of the entries in the view. Items resident in the App will open up directly to reveal further information. Some may trigger a pop up menu with options to telephone or email. Other options such as displaying a map or a website may also be available.

Touching a Facebook or Twitter item will open the item in Facebook or Twitter, but you will need to have an active internet connection to access these online pages, a pop up message is displayed to remind you.

News

The News view takes the latest News available of interest to our users. You can touch on any of the entries in the News view. Items resident in the App will open up directly to reveal further information. Some may trigger a pop up menu with options to telephone or email. Other options such as displaying a map or a website may also be available.

IOL Events

The Events module displays calendar events in an easy to use format.

You can touch to select any of the events which will trigger a pop up menu, generally this menu offers the ability to save the calendar event to your personal calendar on your device. Additional options to telephone or email may be shown and in some cases the menu may offer other options such as displaying a map or a website. Some events will offer a "more details" option which will open the event details page.

Outdoor Jobs

The Outdoor Jobs view has the latest vacancies advertised through IOL. You can touch on any of the entries in the Jobs view. Items resident in the App will open up directly to reveal further information. Some may trigger a pop up menu with options to telephone or email. Other options such as displaying a map or a website may also be available.
